Simi Valley, Jun 1, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - The last few days has brought violence and destruction in cities across the country. Just as stores are beginning to reopen, a small number of individuals are taking advantage of peaceful protests to vandalize and steal from retail outlets. Storeowners, many who have devoted years to build their business, are protecting property during this time of unrest by adding additional emergency security guard protection services, says Access Patrol Services (APS), a security guard company serving California and Arizona.
"Looting and vandalism are acts s of opportunity," says Fahim Abid, APS security director. "If a retail business is unprotected, criminals are more likely to act. If a store has a security guard presence, looters and vandals will look for easier targets as they roam the streets."
Stores looted in Los Angeles include Starbucks, Target, Nordstrom, Whole Foods, Apple Store and numerous small, family-owned businesses. In addition to Los Angeles, looting occurred in other California cities including San Francisco, Stockton, Oakland and Sacramento. In Scottsdale, Arizona, Neiman Marcus, Urban Outfitters and Apple Store were damaged.
A single guard is not enough in volatile situations. APS recommends making a bold security statement. "Multiple guards are necessary to convince would-be looters to move on," says Abid. "If individuals insist on attempting to break into a store or shatter windows, the guards are trained to use a team approach to subdue and detain the offenders. Hopefully, the violence on our streets will end soon. Until then, emergency security guard services should be used to protect stores from mayhem."
