July 18, 2017 —
One of the most beautiful and terrifying moments in any individual or couple’s lives is the moment when they decide to start or add to their family. For many, the decision to grow their family means that they have decided to take the steps to seek information on adoption.
Today in the United States, the myth that it is incredibly difficult to adopt domestically has been widely spread and so it’s not uncommon for prospective parents to decide to seek out international adoption agencies and information on international adoption. What isn’t commonly known is that more than 18,000 infants are adopted domestically in the U.S. each year. In addition to this, once a prospective parent is approved, almost half of all matches occur within six months.
Adoptions From The Heart has been working with pregnant women and prospective parents since 1985. The agency offers services for all parties involved. For pregnant women, assistance obtaining medical care for both mother and child, supportive counseling, and legal guidance is available. Prospective parents will find that the agency can assist them with completing home studies, child abuse clearances, gathering information regarding financial assistance, and counseling programs
The phrase open adoption is nothing to be afraid of. When adopting through Adoptions From The Heart, a certain degree of openness is expected, but usually means that prior to the adoption, there are pre-placement meetings between the birth mother and the prospective parents with discussions on the degree of openness each party expects after the adoption. Every situation is unique and arrangements are made to fit the needs of the involved parties. Then, when the time comes, the infant is placed directly with their prospective parents from the hospital.
For those who are interested in learning more about domestic adoption in Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania, Adoptions From The Heart, which has an office located near Harrisburg in Lancaster, is hosting an online Webinar titled “Discover Domestic Infant Adoption” on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The webinar will be led by a social worker who will be available to answer questions at the end of the information session. This information meeting is free but registration on the AFTH website is required.

In her New York solo exhibition at 47 Canal, Hong Kong-raised artist Cici Wu animates the gallery space with 11 paper lanterns made using traditional techniques. Inside the lanterns constructed with bamboo and willow sticks and sheathed in mulberry paper, she has placed pulsating LED lights that cast moving shadows. There is something cinematic about these luminous sculptures that are traditionally vessels of memories and loss. The pulsating light in each lantern corresponds to a section of the...

“We’re in the golden age of Canadian wines,” legendary wine writer Tony Aspler tells me confidently. We are at an intimate showcase of the stuff at the Canadian consulate in Hong Kong’s Quarry Bay neighbourhood, where representatives of nine wineries have gathered to prove that the true north has more than ice wine to offer. As a wine drinker with no particular bias – I will happily quaff a funky Austrian pét-nat (sparkling wine) as much as a fine Burgundy – it was natural for me to enter with...
