With the announcement, Dentist 101 of Houston wants to encourage Chinatown, Houston residents to seek medical attention from a dental practitioner if their bad breath has persisted for a few weeks or longer.
Since halitosis can also be a symptom of other underlying health conditions, including some oral cancers, GI issues, and kidney disease, the practice recommends scheduling regular dental appointments twice a year so that potential problems can be detected and addressed early on.
Halitosis, Dentist 101 of Houston warns, can also be a temporary symptom of respiratory infections such as pneumonia, sinusitis, and bronchitis. However, a 2013 study found that, in 90% of cases, halitosis was caused by an oral cavity.
Also known as dental caries, cavities are easy for Dentist 101 to rectify with proper dental care solutions, including minimally invasive fluoride treatments and fillings, which restore the surface of broken or decayed teeth with a plastic and glass composite resin.
In more severe instances, they provide root canal therapy or perform tooth extractions to remove the affected tissue and bone. If left to develop, halitosis can worsen and the cavity can become infected and result in a painful abscess growing beneath the teeth and gums.
During a consultation, Dentist 101’s team of experienced practitioners will perform an oral exam in order to identify the root cause and devise the most effective treatment plan. For example, if the halitosis is linked to a build-up of bacteria in the mouth which could lead to gum disease or cavities, the practice may recommend a deep cleaning appointment to clear away plaque and tartar.
The dentist will also offer advice on improving at-home oral hygiene, including guidance on flossing teeth, maintaining dentures, and adjusting diet to avoid the development of cavities.
