Emerald Coast By Owner has announced an official expansion of its property listing services, introducing over 150 new properties throughout Florida's 30A corridor in an effort to eliminate so-called "junk fees".
Destin, United States, October 28, 2026 /PressCable/ -- Responding to increased scrutiny among legislators in the state of Florida, Emerald Coast By Owner has expanded its catalog of rental-by-owner properties, adding over 150 new listings throughout the state's popular 30A corridor. In doing so, they join an ongoing effort among rental owners and regulators to reduce "junk fees", particularly as these fees continue to rise.

A study by Travorro took a closer look at these fees, highlighting the fact that despite the passage of regulations mandating transparency from hotels and resorts regarding extraneous fees, many resorts still refuse to disclose what travelers are actually paying for, even if the fee amount is made clear. They highlight one example in Key West in which a hotel's fees varied by as much as 43% depending on which platform researchers booked through, underscoring the persistent nature of the problem.
“With fees continuing to climb across major booking platforms, more travelers are actively looking for alternatives that let them connect directly with property owners,” said Joe Godar, President and Owner of Emerald Coast By Owner. “Our expansion along 30A reflects that demand.”
Through this expansion, Emerald Coast By Owner lists properties that charge no additional fees, relying on a direct-rental model rather than a typical online travel agency structure. All listings on the platform are vetted prior to listing, reducing the risk of scams typically associated with independent rentals.
These fees, however, are not a problem solely for renters. A CNBC report found that Airbnb’s recent restructuring of its host fee model, which shifted to a single 15.5% host-side service fee, has prompted some hosts to raise listed prices and reconsider their presence on the platform altogether, with some signaling a move toward self-managed rental operations.
Emerald Coast By Owner's new expansion is just one response to these dual pressures; with fees steadily increasing, a Yahoo Finance report explains that the remaining onus lies on the consumer to choose options that eschew these predatory practices. With that in mind, however, the report highlights a noticeable trend: 81% of travelers now say they have been blindsided by surprise fees, and as such, 61% now say they will book direct on their next vacation.
