George Stanley Paving Shares a One-Year Outlook for the Paving Business

Nov 4, 2026

Tulare, California Nov 4, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - A Year of Steady, Not Sudden, Change

George Stanley does not expect the paving industry to look dramatically different a year from now. What he does expect is a slow shift in what property owners ask for, how projects get scheduled, and how much planning goes into a job before a crew ever shows up.

"Most of the change in this business happens quietly," Stanley says. "It's not one big shift. It's a dozen small ones that add up."

Material Costs Will Keep Shaping Decisions

Stanley expects material costs to remain a factor in how projects get scoped over the coming year. He tells clients that the price of asphalt and base materials can move between the time a quote is written and the time a job is scheduled.

"I'd rather tell a client up front that costs can shift than surprise them later," he says. "That's part of why a written scope matters so much before anything starts."

His advice to property owners for the year ahead is simple: lock in timing where possible, and ask questions about what's included in a bid before signing off on it.

Scheduling Pressure Will Not Ease Up

Weather windows for paving work are limited in any given year, and Stanley expects scheduling pressure to stay tight through the next twelve months. Crews, equipment, and good paving weather all have to line up, and that window does not expand just because demand does.

"People sometimes wait too long to book a job and then wonder why they can't get on the schedule," Stanley says. "The earlier a property owner reaches out, the more options they have."

He expects this to push more clients toward planning projects months ahead instead of calling once a surface has already failed.

Clients Will Keep Asking Better Questions

One change Stanley has noticed over time, and expects to continue, is those asking for paving work come in better informed. More property owners now ask about base preparation, drainage, and expected lifespan before they ask about price.

"That's a good thing," he says. "A client who asks about what's under the surface is a client who understands what they're paying for."

Stanley expects this trend to keep shaping conversations with homeowners and commercial property managers alike over the coming year, with more questions focused on long-term performance rather than just the upfront number.

Smaller Repairs Will Get More Attention

Stanley also expects more property owners to treat smaller cracks and surface issues as something worth addressing early, rather than waiting for a full repave. He credits this partly to word of mouth among property owners who have seen what happens when small problems are ignored.

"A small crack left alone becomes a bigger job later," he says. "I think more people are catching on to that."

What He Tells People Planning Ahead

For anyone thinking about paving work in the year ahead, Stanley's advice stays consistent regardless of what shifts around it. Get a written scope. Ask about the base, not just the surface. Book early rather than waiting for a problem to force the timeline.

"The fundamentals don't change much from year to year," he says. "What changes is how much people understand them before they call."

Meet Eva Wong, the Hong Kong writer taking Cantonese to the world

“Despite me sounding like this when I speak English,” writer Eva Wong tells me in a polished yet neutral accent, “I was actually born and raised in Hong Kong, where English was a learned second language from school.” Hearing her voice, you likely wouldn’t pinpoint where she’s from, let alone imagine what that voice “sounds” like on paper. She writes predominantly in Cantonese, but the subjects she covers are universal. Wong’s creative writing has been acclaimed in her hometown and beyond –...

Inside the Shanghai Grand Opera House, a US$590 million performing arts marvel

Even before its doors opened on October 17, the striking, gleaming-white landmark had long redefined the skyline along the Huangpu River in Shanghai. The Shanghai Grand Opera House, which took 10 years to build, is a massive spiral structure rising above the Expo Culture Park in the Chinese city’s Pudong New Area that captures the gaze of passing ferry passengers and riverfront walkers.
