HIAAH, a provider of behavioral healthcare and mental wellness services, has partnered with pharmacogenomic test provider GeneSight to provide accurate medication prescribing to deliver better outcomes.
Brookfield, Connecticut, United States - October 2, 2023 —
Brookfield, CT–HIAAH, a mental healthcare provider sector leader, recently announced their partnership with GeneSight, a pharmacogenomic test provider, to provide accurate dosage information for certain medications.
GeneSight Psychotropic is a pharmacogenomic test that analyzes the impact of genes on medication outcomes. The test examines genetic variations in a patient's DNA. Then, it uses this data to inform doctors on how they may react to certain types of medication, such as those prescribed for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other similar psychiatric conditions.
GeneSight typically must be ordered by doctors and nurse practitioners, but their recent partnership with HIAAH allows all prescribing providers within the practice to order the test immediately. The partnership has made it available to more patients, as test kits are available onsite at the practice or to be delivered to the patient's home address. This means that patients can be tested for how effective certain medications will be before HIAAH approves and prescribes them. This can help patients learn more about their condition and potential treatment options for the future.
The test results of the GeneSight Psychotropic will show which medications are most likely to work and how large or small the dose should be to achieve the desired effect. Some tests may also show potential issues or side effects based on genetic makeup. The goal of the test is to avoid spending time on multiple medication trials.
The test itself is simple and only involves a short cheek swab check. This typically can be done at our office or home once the test kit is ordered to be delivered to the patient's address. Once GeneSight receives this sample, they will analyze the effect of various medications on a patient's genes before compiling a comprehensive report for their clinician. This will help them better understand how to adjust medical doses, resulting in a much smoother patient experience and a higher likelihood of discovering potential medical conflicts.
Results of a GeneSight Psychotropic test will be freely available for download from GeneSight's online portal and can be reviewed with medical professionals to discuss findings. It typically takes two business days to process the sample.
