Meth Rehab Center Brings Comprehensive Treatment To Arizona Residents

Dec 21, 2022

December 21, 2022 - /PressAdvantage/ - Tucson, AZ based Catalina Behavioral Health is taking steps to help their community learn about meth addiction. While the opioid crisis has dominated news headlines for some time, it is an unfortunate truth that meth has also become a greater concern than it once was. As an Arizona meth treatment center, Catalina Behavioral Health has the tools, treatments and expertise necessary to help patients achieve more positive outcomes in their journey to lasting sobriety. They seek to make these resources more accessible to the wider public.

Meth, or methamphetamine, is a strong and highly addictive stimulant that primarily affects the central nervous system. While it has some similarities to its parent drug, amphetamine, it is able to penetrate into the brain in much larger amounts, contributing to its status as a much stronger stimulant. Compounding the issue, it both lasts longer and produces more harmful effects on the central nervous system. Due to its potential for misuse, many rehab centers have had to reorient their facilities and staff in order to help address the rising numbers of patients dealing with this specific substance abuse disorder.

According to Catalina Behavioral Health, meth causes a wide range of symptoms in users, and this makes it more difficult to treat effectively at scale. Every individual who abuses it will experience different symptoms, although they will typically develop issues with memory, judgment and coordination. Fortunately, many have responded to the rising use of meth by developing and expanding treatment procedures, and patients now have a variety of options to choose between. Notably, Catalina Behavioral Health recommends that they make this choice carefully since patients may respond better to some types of treatment than others. Many have seen success with residential rehab programs, for instance, but this may not be suitable for everyone.

Catalina Behavioral Health considers it vital for people who are actively involved with meth (or planning to be) to understand how it can affect them. One question many should know the answer to, the rehab center says, is what the potential for meth overdose is and what its symptoms look like. This is particularly crucial given that many users remain skeptical of whether it is even possible to overdose on meth — but Catalina Behavioral Health says the data strongly suggests it is indeed possible. In fact, trends suggest that the potency of methamphetamine entering the US is rising, which may be contributing to the increase in reports of meth overdose. Many will also have heard that mixing meth (and cocaine) with opioids will increase the risk of overdose, but they should note that methamphetamine alone is linked to a higher risk of overdose independent of opioid use.

An overdose is currently the most serious risk associated with meth use, but the rehab center says involved parties should be on the lookout for others as well, such as aggressiveness, memory loss and mood disorders. In the right context, especially when taking place over time, these symptoms can also have drastic consequences on the user’s health, stability and relationships.

In an article on the subject, the center says, “Using meth also comes with other acute dangers. It causes a dramatic rise in blood pressure, which is linked to a host of health problems. Liver failure is another potential outcome. Knowing the symptoms of a meth overdose might be the difference between life and death because both of these serious outcomes result from long or short-term substance abuse.” Given that there is no standardized method of production or consumption, users additionally have to contend with outside risks. Its manufacturers have been known to use hazardous ingredients during production, such as antifreeze, iodine, battery acid and cat litter.

Along with numerous other experts and rehab centers that are heavily involved in treating meth addiction, Catalina Behavioral Health has observed that an individual who has a substance abuse disorder will often have a mental health disorder as well. Up until recently, a patient could seek treatment for only one or the other, but this is rapidly changing, buoyed by evidence that shows treating the mental health disorder at the heart of the substance abuse disorder leads to lasting results. This is known as treatment for dual diagnoses.
