Halifax, Canada: Nova Graphene has been awarded a 20-month Phase II contract extension by the Department of National Defence (Canada) to continue their development of lightweight ballistic armor for personal protection using additive manufacturing.
Current ballistic protection systems – or “bullet-proof armor” – tend to be heavy, bulky, and limit mobility. They frequently contribute to overheating & discomfort and alter natural movement biomechanics, which may increase the risk of injury. In addition, current systems lack the modularity and scalability that will enable the adoption of less burdensome solutions and improve integrated survivability.
Nova Graphene Canada is leveraging its proprietary graphene-enhanced technology to provide the means to significantly improve these characteristics, with the aim of increasing survivability, performance, and unit effectiveness.
C.E.O. Paul Beasant is honored the company was chosen from an elite field to continue to spearhead this important R&D effort: “We look forward to expanding our work to commercialize 3D-printed ballistic plates to help safeguard the members of our military. Not only do we anticipate these plates being incredibly light, but are working to custom print them from 3D body scans of the soldiers, so items
such as chest plates and helmets will fit perfectly.
“As our production capabilities continue to expand, we also look forward to making our products available to our allies and to members of law enforcement, and eventually for custom applications such as motorcycle and sports helmets.”
About The Company: Graphene, a revolutionary carbon allotrope, is the future of all sectors of manufacturing. Nova Graphene is an international provider of unique graphenes and graphene-enhanced product formulations. Their blends – including CarbonEra BlackTM and CarbonEra PlatinumTM – have successfully & dramatically improved the properties of everything from concrete & composites to lubricants & 3D printing filaments.

This is the 5th Defence contract awarded to Nova Graphene. More information can be found at www.NovaGraphene.com.

AI-generated fashion models present a tantalising opportunity for brands: the ability to create lifelike images for their retail websites while cutting costs by 90 per cent or more compared to photo shoots with human models. For the modelling industry, the technology poses an existential threat because of scant regulation governing the ownership or use of digital twins. Fashion models face the risk of unpaid replication of their image – or replacement by entirely synthetic models. Interviews...
There comes a moment in modern life when the mandate of functionalism becomes a drag. It often arrives during the evening rush, when a heavy shoulder bag – stuffed with laptops, chargers and the clutter of a productive existence – feels less like a vessel for living and more like a labour in itself. Enter the anti-tote. From the runways of Paris to the digital streets of Substack and Instagram, fashion is experiencing a collective retreat into the exquisitely impractical. On the arm of A-listers...
If you have dull skin, dark circles under your eyes or brittle nails, social media algorithms may be quick to diagnose you with “ferritin face”. Though not a formal medical diagnosis, the buzzy term has emerged as the latest viral beauty-and-wellness trend describing traits supposedly caused by low ferritin – the cellular protein that stores iron in the body. While iron deficiency anaemia frequently shows up with these visible symptoms, Western medical doctors caution that a complex metabolic...

The oddly shaped 15-foot-tall pillar collapsed after a torrent of rain. It was the second loss of a striking rock formation in the region in less than a month.
The United States, China and India lead the world when tourism is measured by economic power. Ask where the industry creates the greatest employment opportunities, and Croatia, the Maldives, El Salvador and The Gambia each lead their income group. For tourism ministers making the case for more investment, the distinction matters. A sector can generate billions, but who gets a share of the work?
Gustav Mahler’s rarely performed Symphony No 8, a work requiring such a large orchestra and choir it is known as “Symphony of a Thousand”, finally received its Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra premiere on Saturday, heralding an ambitious new chapter as the 26-year-old Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski officially took the podium as music director. The 5pm performance at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre involved nearly 600 musicians and singers from six choirs: the Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus; the...
By Deborah Vankin Walking is my salvation. Vigorous solo walks through Griffith Park in Los Angeles are both my go-to exercise and meditations in motion. I regularly “walk the day off” there, or stroll around the city’s Silver Lake Reservoir after work to unwind. I do not listen to music or podcasts or even the news. Instead, I tune into my rhythmic footsteps and the medley of background noise: squawking birds, yapping passers-by, whooshing traffic. It’s soothing. But when a family member’s...
Actor John Goodman has said he is “still getting used to” his appearance after shedding 90kg. Goodman’s weight loss journey has been a long one. The actor, who once revealed he weighed 181kg at his heaviest, decided to turn his life around in his 50s. He cut sugar from his diet, exercised six times a week and quit alcohol. In 2023, Goodman debuted his dramatic weight loss transformation at the 62nd Monte-Carlo Television Festival. More recently, however, the actor admitted that he is “still...
