Putnam County Storm Outage Report Highlights Internet Gaps for Local Businesses
Sep 28, 2026
An award-winning managed IT provider is breaking down the events of the Putnam County storm outage and the business continuity lessons local enterprises can glean from it.
New Windsor, United States, September 28, 2026 /PressCable/ -- Award-winning IT services provider Fisch Solutions has published a new expert piece, written by its president, Jason Fisch, examining the July 2026 fiber outage in Putnam County and the business continuity gaps it exposed for small businesses in Carmel, Mahopac, and surrounding communities.

A representative from the managed IT and cybersecurity firm explained that the piece was prompted by what the outage revealed rather than the outage itself. “A fire on Route 311 took out the county’s primary fiber connection for approximately 25 hours,” a Fisch Solutions spokesperson said. “For most businesses, that meant point-of-sale systems went down, phones stopped working, cloud software became unreachable, and email disappeared.”
“The outage did not discriminate; it hit every business that had a single point of failure and no plan for what comes next,” they added.
The Fisch Solutions spokesperson further noted that one detail from the event stands out as a clear lesson for local business owners. Putnam County’s public-safety radio system remained operational throughout the outage because it was designed from the outset not to depend on the same infrastructure that failed. The article argues that the same principle should be applied to small businesses’ IT environments.
The article addresses four practical decisions Putnam County business owners can make to avoid a similar outcome when a storm or fiber cut disrupts connectivity in the region. Among them is establishing a second internet path through a different provider or physical network route, allowing systems to automatically fail over when the primary connection is lost. The piece also examines phone systems that can reroute calls to mobile devices when an office network becomes unavailable.
A business continuity readiness checklist is also provided to help owners assess their current preparations.
For Putnam County businesses looking to address the gaps exposed by the outage, Fisch Solutions has been helping Hudson Valley companies build similar resilience well before the July 5 incident made the issue more urgent.
“Business owners should treat the July 5 outage as a rehearsal, not a one-off event. The next interruption could last longer or happen alongside a ransomware attack, power failure, or severe weather,” added the spokesperson.

Hong Kong pianist John Lee does justice to Rachmaninov and more despite dry acoustics
The marketing of classical music concerts has increasingly focused on the musician rather than the music, with the often ephemeral cult of personality perceived as more valuable than the notes they play, at least in drawing an audience. So, it was refreshing to hear the fine young musician John Lee play. After studying at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he is now a member of the faculty, Lee earned a master’s degree from the Royal College of Music in London with distinction and...

How betel nut chewing in China became a habit for millions, from emperors to commoners
The history of the betel nut, also known as the areca nut, stretches further back than previously thought. New research suggests that people on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi were enjoying its mind-altering effects as long as 25,000 years ago. The discovery began with two ancient skeletons whose teeth bore curious, deep grooves. Australian archaeologists suspected these were the result of repeatedly sucking on whole betel nuts. Chemical analysis subsequently detected traces of arecoline, the...
