According to Industrial Safety and Hygiene News, construction workers face an array of injuries every year, and many of them are caused by the heavy equipment used on job sites. But one retailer is getting the word out to construction workers that sometimes the best tool for the job is a small, innocuous tool like a utility knife box cutter.
“We hear from people in the construction industry all the time,” says a spokesman from MJH Innovations, an online retailer that specializes in quality products for reasonable prices, including the Maxx Cutter box cutter utility knife. “They’re telling us that many times, they don’t want to risk an injury by using a bulky and hard to handle tool because their box cutter does the job just as well.”
Construction workers use the box cutter utility knives to score the back of and cut roof tiles and sheet rock, vinyl flooring, heavy duty packaging and more. “I believe that if more workers reached for their box cutters, there would be a lot less injuries caused by heavy equipment,” he says.
The most common types of construction site injuries are cuts and lacerations, a loss of limbs or fingers, or broken or crushed bones, and many of these stem from accidents involving heavy machinery.
“While it is possible to suffer an injury while using a box cutter, it’s less likely if you follow a few simple safety rules. Don’t pull the blade toward you when cutting, always make sure the blade is sharp, and use one with an ergonomic handle,” he says. “And remember, if you’re injured when using a heavy piece of equipment, it’s likely to be more serious. But if you’re injured when using a box cutter, you’ll likely only suffer a cut or laceration. Just use them wisely, and you can avoid injuries altogether.”
