Breaking down personal and professional barriers for job seekers by providing the right individual support.

Ottawa, Ontario Sep 5, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Skills Council of Canada is pleased to announce its partnership with Canada's TutorOcean, a global tutoring marketplace that through Skills Council of Canada's Collaborative Support Ecosystem will provide job seekers with access to one-on-one expert support, helping them overcome personal or professional barriers they might face during their journey from skills development to employment.

To support the variable of barriers, Skills Council of Canada had to also consider that not all job seekers had the same abilities, or motivation to work exclusively in a self-paced environment. As everyone is unique, and 1-on-1 individual support might look completely different from one person to the next, access to a multitude of expertise would be required. Skills Council of Canada realized this could include any number of subject matter experts, career advisors, mental wellness councillors, job readiness professionals, trade mentors, as well as a learning support team. With millions of job seekers across Canada, the Skills Council of Canada had to also consider that their solution needed to support scale, which would require a sophisticated backend platform that would enable hundreds to thousands of job seekers an ability to connect with 1-on-1 support. This system would also need to connect to the Skills Council of Canada's skills ecosystem so that job seekers' support would be seamlessly integrated with their profiles, their assessment results, their skills development pathways, and their other skills to employment support resources.

After considerable research, the Skills Council of Canada connected with TutorOcean to discuss the opportunity for collaboration, and learn more about the services offered, the flexibility of their business model, the scalability of their system, the quality of their resources, and how collectively they could develop an integrated solution to support breaking down barriers for job seekers.

"To tackle the unprecedented scale of labour shortage facing the Canada economy, and the magnitude of individual support needed, we must continue to reimagine our skills development solutions while focusing on collaborative solutions," said Brad Loiselle, CEO of Skills Council of Canada. "During our first meeting with TutorOcean, our synergies aligned right away, and the collective passions grew stronger as we planned for a better future for all, together," added Loiselle.

Skills Council of Canada was awarded $3,824,399 in funding earlier this year by the Ontario Government's Skills Development Fund to support their Project - Breaking Down Barriers - Skills To Employment Collaborative Support Ecosystem ("CSE").

"Our government is committed to spreading opportunity more fairly and widely to every corner of our province," said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. "That's why we're investing in this Skills Council of Canada initiative, which will knock down barriers and help 500 youth, women, and Indigenous people take the next step in their careers."

Skills Council of Canada's CSE project has developed partnerships with many employers who's need for job candidates far exceeds the 500 target that has been set by this project. The Skills to Employment Collaborative Support Ecosystem has been designed to support an endless number of job seekers and through partnerships with organizations such as TutorOcean, Skills Council of Canada is now setting their sights on much larger target numbers.

"We are thrilled to have partnered with the innovative team at Skills Council Canada. It has been a pleasure working with their team in developing our growth strategies. Supporting the needs of a job seeker's skills for the employment journey is only possible by bringing together multiple synergistic partners that can support the entire learning development path. We look forward to supporting thousands of job seekers over the coming years helping them upskill and achieve the career they always wanted." Will Li, CEO & Co-Founder, TutorOcean

Meet Dan and Dave Buck, co-owners of Art of Play, the store feuding with Kelly Clarkson

A New York store named Art of Play has become the centre of a feud with Kelly Clarkson after the singer went on X and alleged she was treated as if she couldn’t afford the shop’s items. “Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me. Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale,” Clarkson wrote on...

‘I’m so excited’: Kim Jones on choosing Hong Kong as the home of his revived fashion label

One might not expect British fashion designer Kim Jones, a figure synonymous with modern luxury, to highlight reptiles as one of his earliest memories of Hong Kong. “I love Hong Kong, the weird side of it and the fact that there are king cobras that live here, and different snakes and the sort of things which most people probably get terrified of,” the 53-year-old says. Jones first visited Hong Kong after joining Dunhill as its creative director in 2008, visiting regularly in the late 2000s to...

Lily Mo Sheen, daughter of Michael Sheen and Kate Beckinsale, knows how to steal the spotlight. In March, Lily attended the Elton John Aids Foundation’s 34th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party in West Hollywood, California, wearing a semi-sheer strapless beaded gown. Last December, she...

Gritty Jakarta Biennale, polished Art Jakarta – both tell Indonesia’s story, haze and all

At the 2026 Jakarta Biennale, visitors can plant cassava in moist soil. An evocative soundscape, including the calls of threatened birds-of-paradise, fills the air. Paintings made with natural pigments on tree bark hang on the walls. The installation by Papua-based artist collective Alyakha Kolektif draws attention to illegal gold mining and excessive logging that are damaging the environment in Indonesia’s Sentani region. The cassava planting, which continues until late October, is intended as...
